Spiral Dynamics Quiz!
Discover your Spiral Color!
This test is a tool to help you discover your dominant color and weakest color and everything in-between! Every color is a way you “see” the world. It represents a perceptual lens, worldview, set of values, and stage of consciousness.
Process: This is a free test. Your results will be given immediately with no email or sign-in required (thus no personal data is stored, but you must save the results yourself). The test generally takes 8-18mins.
Accuracy: These results are not conclusive. No test can know you. Your results are mediated through language, culture, and your self-reporting bias. No personality (or worldview) test is completely accurate, but can be a helpful tool for self-reflection and discussion.
Scoring: This is a robust test, with just shy of 100 questions and nuanced scoring by which one question may apply (positively or negatively) to multiple colors, with a couple additional calculations drawing upon how multiple questions are answered.
Spiral Color Descriptions
Beige
Beige is the most foundational color of the Spiral and the first to develop in human consciousness. Beige sees through the lens of survival and tries to meet the needs of the body.
Strengths: Instinctual, Body-Aware, and Present
Weaknesses: Impulsive, Carnal, and Non-Reflective
High Beige indicates...
You value your basic needs and physical health! You give attention to what's good and bad for you, and spend time taking care of yourself. Survival is a very real question. Your thinking is motivated by what you need.
Low Beige indicates...
You are generally unconcerned with your body and physical needs. This likely means you are "trapped in the head" and unaware of the immense amount of information your body is signaling. Others may see you as detached or living an unhealthy lifestyle.
Purple
Purple is the magical and tribal color of the Spiral, concerned with family, spirits, and ritual. Purple sees through the lens of familiarity and tries to meet the needs of "home," seeking safe, cozy, and connected places and people. Purple operates under tradition and intuition without questioning its role. It tends to see kin, culture, and religion as bound into one.
Strengths: Loyal, Warm, Intuitive
Weaknesses: Insular, Passive, Superstitious
High Purple indicates...
You value family, familiarity, and intimate connection! Much of your life likely consists of spending time with your tribe or family, considering their needs, and following the path of your ancestors or the spirits. The comfortable and conventional motivates your decision making.
Low Purple indicates...
You are disconnected from your deep sense of safety and connection -- something found in spirituality, ritual, and intimacy. This likely means you don't engage intentionally with the spiritual realm nor are tapped into ancestral traditions. You may also be disconnected from family and your intuition. Others likely see you as overly analytical, skeptical, and independent.
Red
Red is the powerful and egoistic color of the Spiral. It is a breaking away from the "tribe" to become one's own person. Red sees through the lens of power and tries to make sure they can protect themselves and assert their wants, needs, and boundaries. Red can be adventurous and fun, but also self-centered and dominating.
Strengths: Fun, Sexy, Tough
Weaknesses: Short-Sighted, Rebellious, Ruthless
High Red indicates...
You value autonomy, assertiveness, and expressing yourself! You are likely concerned with developing strength and power or being cool and sexy, and don’t like being dependent on others. Your decision making is motivated by pursuing your desires and what makes you happy.
Low Red indicates...
You are unassertive and self-sacrificial to the point of self-abasement. You rarely consider your own wants, and may be easy to take advantage of. You avoid conflict and may struggle to express your needs. Others may see you as naïve, complacent, and lacking self-confidence.
Blue
Blue is the structured and purposeful color of the Spiral, which sees through the lens of duty. It responds to the chaos of Red with moral authority from above, rules for society, high ideals, and pursuing a purpose than transcends oneself. Guilt turns on. Long-term planning activates. Blue self-sacrifices for its social group, religion, or nation.
Strengths: Responsible, Fair, Long-Term Thinker
Weaknesses: Rigid, Dogmatic, Judgmental
High Blue indicates...
You value order, fairness, and responsibility! You concern yourself with being a good person and being prepared for the future. You seek out structures that support you and you can give yourself to. You want to know the truth and seek the certainty it promises. Your decision making is heavily motivated by following "the rules" (as long as they come from the proper authority).
Low Blue indicates...
You rebel against authority and seek to do your own thing in life. You are not bound by rules or the perceived moral standard. Others may see you as irresponsible, non-committal, and tossed about by the wind.
Orange
Orange is the strategic and individualist color of the Spiral. It works within the Blue structure to maximize benefit, productivity, and innovation. Orange sees through the lens of efficiency and often has an ends-justify-the-means attitude. Orange typically believes in individual freedom and rights, merit-based reward, and trusts what science and technology give us. Orange efforts have been the driving forces behind capitalism, the Scientific Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and commercialism.
Strengths: Hard-working, Efficient, Innovative
Weaknesses: Over-working, Competitive, Narcissistic
High Orange indicates...
You value progress, intelligence, and success! You seek to gain status, influence, and/or wealth. You likely spend your time gathering knowledge and skills or cultivating your image. Your identity is closely bound to what you "do" and how "effective" you are. Your beliefs are justified through empirical evidence and pragmatic results. While you are likely to excel at what you do, if there is little influence from other colors, you are prone to emotional dissatisfaction and existential disconnection.
Low Orange indicates...
You reject the modernist paradigm. You give little attention to what is usually considered to "move the world…" money, technology, productivity, and charisma. Others may see you as unrealistic, emotional, and unrelatable.
Green
Green is the communal, harmonious, and global color of the Spiral. It responds to the materialism and capitalism of Orange, focusing in on the "human element," including subjective experience and culturally-constructed realities. Green sees through the lens of sensitivity and will often prioritize process over product. Green is empathetic towards those on the margins and seeks to rectify systemic injustice. It is associated with multiculturalism, environmentalism, pluralism, postmodernism, and intersubjectivity.
Strengths: Inclusive, Kind, Globally-Minded
Weaknesses: Soft, Unproductive, Impractical
High Green indicates...
You value compassion and acceptance! Every person and their experience matters, and we all deserve a place where we belong. You see the flaws in social systems which make life much harder for some. You have an eye on global concerns including the earth-wide ecosystem. Rather than money or success, you seek harmony and authenticity. Your decision-making tries to consider everyone.
Low Green indicates...
You reject vulnerability and fear being taken advantage of. You likely think people these days are too sensitive and too emotionally-driven. Because of this you likely miss out on human bonds and the information given from empathy. Others may see you as closed-off, tough, and hard-hearted.
Yellow
Yellow is the integrative and adaptable color of the Spiral. It is the first color in 2nd-tier consciousness: marked by distance from the ego, humility, and comfort with ambiguity and paradox. Yellow sees through the lens of flexibility. It seeks an authentic integration of each color within itself, and in the world, building bridge-building across communities. Yellow is always learning and growing in the ability to relate with and dialogue well with others. Yellow tends to thrive in philosophical exploration, but must also learn to grow through the heart and embodied experience.
Strengths: Non-Egoic, Adaptable, Wise
Weaknesses: Theoretical, Aloof, Liminal
High Yellow indicates...
You value adaptability and integration! You have a zoomed-out perspective, by which you can analyze yourself and others. You are open-minded to truth in everyone's perspective, and try look for the both-and. You likely have a draw towards holding in tension, systemic thinking, and 'dialogue' between opposites. Growth in Yellow involves shoring up colors which you are weak/low in.
Low Yellow indicates...
You are confident in your particular frame of viewing the world, and probably don't question it very much. You prefer answers and certainty to questions and mystery. You may struggle with all or nothing thinking. Others may see you as rigid, closed-minded, or uninteresting.
Turquoise
Turquoise is the expansive and mystical color of the Spiral. It is the final color, representing the furthest edge that human consciousness can, as of yet, reach. While Yellow is self-actualizing, Turquoise is self-transcending, always calling us beyond ourselves. Turquoise shifts perspectives not through intellect, but through experience, presence, and relationship with the transcendent. Turquoise sees through the lens of expansion, and comes to new insights. Its detached contentment can lead to complacency and inaction.
Strengths: Mystical, Insightful, Content
Weaknesses: Unrelatable, Detached, Self-Rejecting
High Turquoise indicates...
You value lived participation and being the presence of love! You have spiritual practices that orient you towards the transcendent, and have a sense that everything is, in some way, as it should be. While no language can capture what you experience, it leads you to self-surrender, inner peace, and contentment in every circumstance. Your rest is not found in this world.
Low Turquoise indicates...
Your spiritual muscles could use some work. You are focused on the things of this world and what concerns you, and are likely closed-off to intervention from above. Others may see you as overly pragmatic, turbulent, or dissatisfied.
Color levels are not fixed throughout life. Two things affect your movement into and out of colors: your life conditions and your response to those conditions. Different life conditions promote or suppress different colors. If there’s a threat to your life or your honor and you need to defend yourself, you may bump down to Red or Beige, instead of chugging along at Orange or living a harmonious Turquoise-colored life. Many times, this is exactly what should happen. Perhaps you’ve really screwed something up, and it triggers Blue guilt and conscientiousness, helping you to avoid such things in the future. So wherever you are with the Spiral, know that throughout life things are likely to shift over time, particularly when life conditions change.
