Book description…

In this beautifully crafted coffee table book, you are invited to see with new eyes, noticing the pattern of triune love in all things, including time, breath, music, trees, the brain, and the cross of Christ.

Daniel C. Hickman, Christian author with a Masters of Divinity, brings together the cognitive science of Dr. John Vervaeke and the theological insights of the Apostle Paul, Augustine of Hippo, Pseudo-Dionysus, Meister Eckhart, Julian of Norwich, John Paul II, C.S. Lewis, Paul Tillich, David Bentley Hart, Pope Leo XIV, and others. The result is an enlivening perspective on how our world reflects the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

This book offers compelling explanations of the Trinity and the universal pattern of love rooted in daily lived experience.

This book is for…

  • Readers hungry for a deeper, more integrated faith

  • Fans of C.S. Lewis, Dr. John Vervaeke, or theological symbolism

  • Artists, contemplatives, and deep thinkers

  • Anyone seeking a beautiful gift for a thoughtful friend or loved one

  • Daily devotional readers who want substance with their inspiration

“All teems with symbol; the wise man is the man who in any one thing can read another, a process familiar to all of us in not a few examples of everyday experience.”

– Plotinus

Contemplate the 3-ness of Reality

Hickman offers a Trinity-inspired framework of reality which unites materiality, mind, and morality (all distinct, yet also one).

This framework unites the philosophies of materialism, idealism, and processism, as well as rationalism, romanticism, and pragmatism. Metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics all find their place in the ultimacy of a God who gives breath and being to all things.

While intellectually exacting, the reasonings of this book are not dry, but invite experiences of God through contemplation and symbolism. The philosopher and mystic alike will find ample food for thought in this work.

Explore the loving pattern of the Trinity…

You’ll be able to not only understand the doctrine of the Divine Trinity, but see it reflected in your daily life.

While each of the Persons of the Trinity are One, they are also distinctly Themselves. Father, Son, and Spirit are all God, co-equal and co-eternal. Yet they each have a unique (if equal) glory within the Communion of gift-of-self Love. This 3-in-1 pattern is the paradox of God. It is this very mystery which defines “love” and it sustains love in our world.

The Father

Is Lover,
Source,
Oneness,
and Ground of Being.

The Son

Is Beloved,
Word,
Differentiation,
and Ground of Meaning.

The Spirit

Is Gift of Love,
Life,
Relationship,
and Ground of Value.

Illustrator: J.A. Christopher Bernans

J.A. Christopher Bernans (Jacob Bernans) constructs meaningful art pieces that explore the intersection of Beauty and the Divine, rooted in his belief that we must never give up on creating Hope, for there is no Cross that we bear that Jesus Christ has not already overcome. Drawing from his Catholic background and experiences as an illustrator, graphic designer, architectural designer, and calligrapher, he designed the Biblically rooted and creative artwork in this devotional. Originally from Dublin, Ohio, Jacob received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. He draws endless inspiration from his travel adventures, muddy hiking boots, and bedtime stories shared lakeside in rural Nebraska with his beloved wife and son.

– Romans 11:36

What inspired this book?

I’ve been working on this book for several years now. The idea incubated slowly as I noticed patterns of the Trinity in my own life and in my areas of study in theology, philosophy, and cognitive science.

From the beginning, it was important to me that this book be deeply beautiful, communicating truth through form, not just propositional content. I wanted to show, not just describe, that Truth, Beauty, and Goodness are One. When I found Jacob’s illustration work, it was a perfect match for what I was searching for! Together we collaborated to make something so much more than we could have done on our own.

I’d like to give credit to those who have influenced this work. My own thinking has emerged only through many authors who have shared their own passions, intellectual rigor, and nuanced perspectives. Their collective influence has inspired the symbolic, integrative, and dialectical character of this book. Below are the people quoted in this book, each of whom has something to offer.
