Icon Gazing (Visio Divina)

The practice of visio divina (divine looking) is one of cultivating openness to God through gazing at sacred art or a sacred symbol. By gazing with holy awareness, we find that icons are not just for enjoyment or for teaching but are windows into deeper spiritual realities, tools to facilitate prayer, and mediums through which we give proper worship to God.

Below is how Brother Jean-Marc of Taizé monastery has described the practice of icon gazing.
